BANGLADESH NATIONAL ZOO, MIRPUR

BANGLADESH NATIONAL ZOO is a zoo located in the Mirpur section of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The zoo contains many native and non-native animals and wildlife and hosts about three million visitors each year. The name of the zoo has been changed from 5 February 2015 from Dhaka Zoo to Bangladesh National Zoo.

NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDEN

The National Botanic Garden of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh National Herbarium make up the largest plant conservation center in Bangladesh, with an area of around 84 hectares (210 acres). It is located at Mirpur in Dhaka, beside the Dhaka Zoo. It was established in 1961. It is one of the greatest botanic gardens of Bangladesh, a knowledge center for nature lovers and botanists, and a tourist destination. The herbarium has a scientific collection of approximately 100,000 preserved specimens of plants.

UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA

The UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA is the oldest university in Bangladesh. Nawab Bahadur Sir Khwaja Salimullah, who played a pioneering role in establishing the university in Dhaka, donated 600 acres of land from his estate for this purpose.

SHAHID ZIA SHISHU PARK

SHISHU PARK is the only public sector children’s amusement park in SHAHBAG, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Established in 1979 on 15 acres of land, it is the first children’s amusement park in Bangladesh.

BANGLADESH NATIONAL MUSEUM

THE MUSEUM OF INDEPENDENCE in Dhaka, Bangladesh depicts the struggle for independence of Bangladesh. It shows the history of the nation since Mughal tenure to independence in 1971. It is the first and only underground museum in the country.

SHAHEED MINAR

THE SHAHEED MINAR is a national monument in Dhaka, Bangladesh, established to commemorate those killed during the Bengali Language Movement demonstrations of 1952 in East Pakistan.

SUHRAWARDY UDYAN

SUHRAWARDY UDYAN (Bengali: সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান) formerly known as RAMNA RACE COURSE ground is a national memorial located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is named after HUSEYN SHAHEED SUHRAWARDY. Originally it served as the military club of the British soldiers stationed in Dhaka. It was then called the RAMNA RACE COURSE and later Ramna Gymkhana. After the end of colonial rule, the place — sometimes referred to as Dhaka Race Course — was used for legal horse racing on Sundays.

It is the resting place of three great national leaders, Sher-i-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq (1873–1962), Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy (1892–1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894–1964). Ramna Race Course was renamed after Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. A Mughal structure namely the Dhaka Gate was built adjacent to the park area of Suhrawardy Udyan. The gate was built by Mir Jumla II in 1660s.

The Museum of Independence, Dhaka is situated within the park area. The museum depicts the history of the nation since Mughal tenure to independence in 1971. The museum was opened to public on 25 March 2015.

AHSAN MANZIL MUSEUM

AHSAN MANZIL used to be the official residential palace and seat of the NAWAB of Dhaka. The building is situated at KUMARTOLI along the banks of the BURIGANGA RIVER in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the INDO-SARACENIC REVIVAL ARCHITECTURE.

LALBAGH FORT

LALBAGH FORT is an incomplete 17th-century Mughal fort complex that stands before the BURIGANGA RIVER in the southwestern part of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The construction was started in 1678 AD by MUGHAL SUBAHDAR MUHAMMAD AZAM SHAH, who was son of Emperor Aurangzeb and later emperor himself.

JAMUNA FUTURE PARK LARGEST SHOPPING MALL

JAMUNA FUTURE PARK is a shopping mall in Dhaka. It was inaugurated on 6 September 2013. Construction began in 2002, by JAMUNA BUILDERS LTD., a subsidiary of the JAMUNA GROUP and the exterior was completed in 2008. It has a total floor area of 4,100,000 square feet.

KAMALAPUR RAILWAY STATION

KAMALAPUR RAILWAY STATION (officially known as Dhaka railway station) is the central railway station of Bangladesh. It is situated at the north–east of MOTIJHEEL, Dhaka. It is the largest railway station in the country and the most important terminal for transportation between Dhaka and the rest of Bangladesh. The station building is one of the most modern and striking buildings in Dhaka designed by Berger Consulting. The design process started under the direction of Daniel Dunham followed by ROBERT BOUGHEY.

JALLADKHANA KILLING FIELD

JALLADKHANA KILLING FIELD is located in Avenue 1, Mirpur and Dhaka. It is a mass grave from the Bangladesh Liberation war.

NATIONAL MARTYRS’ MEMORIAL

National Martyrs’ Memorial is the national monument of Bangladesh, set up in the memory of those who died in the Bangladesh War of Independence of 1971, which brought independence and separated Bangladesh from Pakistan. The monument is located in SAVAR, about 35 km north-west of the capital, Dhaka.

DHAKA INTERNATION AIRPORT

HAZRAT SHAHJALAL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT is the largest and most prominent international airport in Bangladesh. It is located in KURMITOLA, 17 kilometers from the city Centre, in the northern part of the capital city Dhaka. Part of it is Bangladesh Air Force Base BANGABANDHU. The airport has an area of 802 hectares

DHAKA INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR CENTER

The 26th edition of Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2021 is going to be held in March at its newly built permanent venue — the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre — at PURBACHAL. The change of venue should spare Dhaka-dwellers from the traffic congestion that used to form around AGARGAON during the month-long fair, while maintaining international standard. The date was changed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
